Novell Operating Systems

Novell NetWare

The organization Novell, Inc, first developed Novell NetWare in 1983, and discontinued the closed source network operating system in 2009.

NetWare released their global directory service, the NetWare Directory Services (now known as eDirectory), six years prior to Microsoft’s Active Directory. This directory, in addition to the email system, GroupWise, was intended for and used widely by large enterprises.

While Novell ended the extended support in 2015, OAC Technology still offers service to NetWare products.

Novell GroupWise

Novell GroupWise is an emailing and messaging platform. The desktop client software is supported by Windows operating systems, while the server platform is on Linux and Windows systems.

Our techs at OAC Technology can help with your GroupWise platforms needs.

Windows Operating Systems

Windows 3.1

Microsoft released Windows 3.1 as the direct successor of Windows 3.0. It was the main closed source operating system from 1992 to 1993 prior to the release of Windows NT. However, Microsoft discontinued the system support of Windows 3.1 at the end of 2001.

This version of Windows gave us features such as TrueType fonts and Windows Media Player.

Windows NT

Windows NT (“New Technology”) 3.1 was released as a 32-bit operating system that retained the user experience found in regular Windows 3.1. This operating system was in use from 1993 to 1994, but was made obsolete in 2000. Eventually, Windows NT was followed up by Windows 95.

Windows 95

Microsoft developed Windows 95 as the first member of the Windows 9x family. Windows 95 was the main operating system from 1995 to 1997, with support ending shortly afterwards in 2001.

Importantly, this version was the first to include staple features of today like the taskbar and start menu.

Windows 98

Similar to its predecessor Windows 95, Windows 98 was a hybrid 16-bit and 32-bit operating system. Many of the improvements were primarily for the user experience, but this was the first edition that included the now standard Windows Driver Model.

However, extended system support for Windows 98 ended in 2006.

Windows 2000

As the next major launch for Windows NT and the direct successor of NT 4.0, Windows 2000 was the main operating system from 2000 to 2005. Until Windows XP, Windows 2000 was the main system for businesses, and first introduced the Active Directory.

Microsoft officially ended its extended support in 2010.

Windows 2003

Windows 2003 was very popular, and many businesses ran on it for years. This version of Windows 2003 was Microsoft’s main server operating system until Windows 2008 Server was released. Even then, many businesses did not upgrade to 2008 Server. If you are still running Windows 2003, we can help you upgrade or migrate to the cloud.

DOS Operating Systems

MS-DOS

MS-DOS is a rebranded version of IBM PC DOS, with DOS standing for “disk operating system”. It was the primary operating system for IBM and x86-based computers in the 1980s. The extended support from Microsoft for versions 1 through 7.0 ended in 2001, with the support for 7.0-8.0 from Microsoft ending in 2006. We are happy to still support your DOS based programs and legacy systems.

Miscellaneous

Lotus Domino Server

The Lotus Domino Server, also known as IBM Domino and then HCL Domino, is a server software for enterprises. It is paired with HCL Notes, which is the client software side of the duo. Typically, only the latest version of the software is officially supported by HCL. However, we are able and happy to support your older and legacy versions of Domino operating systems.
